A FAMILY THAT IS APART

The parents felt it was best that the marriage did not continue, and they had a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old daughter. To separate the family was enough, but separating the children made it even worse. The courts gave custody of the son to his father, and the mother got custody of the daughter. This was indeed a strange arrangement, but not one that hadn’t been done before. The courts ordered the children to have one weekend together as sisters and brothers. This almost worked out fine for the first 6 months but became more difficult as time passed. The children each had independent activities related to school and sports, so the conflict grew at times between the father and mother. Sometimes, there are very heated exchanges and, unfortunately, in front of the children.

An opportunity and a company needed his skillset with a significant pay increase. Upon returning to a weekend motel near his ex-wife’s home, the father executed a plan. When he took the job, he changed his name and used his son and son’s middle name.
